Family Consecration

What is Consecration?

Consecration means that an individual, family, or married couple willfully decides to set themselves apart from what is not holy and good in order to respond faithfully to God's grace at work in our lives.

Individually and as a family, you entrust yourselves to Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

Until the age of 18, parents have spiritual authority over their children, giving them the right to consecrate them up til that age.

Apostolate for Family Consecration

We encourage families to visit the Apostolate for Family Consecration's website to learn more about Family Consecration. They have many resources to teach you how to consecrate your family.

Consecration of Family Members

Guardian Angel.jpg

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you, their Angels in heaven always behold the face of My Father in Heaven."

-Mathew 18:10

Through the consecration the child binds itself to the holy Guardian Angel, so that his help can become much more efficacious. It enables the angel to exercise more influence upon the child, speaking more clearly through inner admonitions, motivating it more to do good (cf. CCC350), alert it to dangers, illumine the child's mind, so that it advances more rapidly on the way to God.

Mother Gabriele says-

"...helping the child to love him, listen to him and receive from him its "first religious instruction", that is to say, the angel helps the child distinguish good from evil and helps it learn the first virtue of a child, which is obedience."

*This consecration does have requirements that the child needs to meet before making it. Please read that and instructions for completing the consecration on the website using the button below.

Consecration of Children

 (ages 4-13)

St. Joseph.jpg

"Valiant and strong is the man who, like St. Joseph, perseveres in humility; he will be conqueror at once of the devil and of the world, which is full of ambition, vanity, and pride."

-St. Francis de Sales

As the earthly father to Jesus and spouse to our mother, Mary, St. Joseph is to entrust him to as your spiritual father to the point of resembling him in virtue and holiness. In turn, he provides his undivided attention, protection, and guidance to those consecrated to him, ultimately leading them to God.

Consecration of Women

 (Daughters, Wives, Mothers)

"The Immaculate alone has from God the promise of victory over Satan. She seeks souls that will consecrate themselves entirely to her, that will become in her hands, forceful instruments for the defeat of Satan and the spread of God's kingdom."

-Maximilian kolbe

We don't honor Mary because she overcame challenges of being a woman. We honor her because she is a perfect model of humility, grace, maternal love, faithfulness, tenderness, strength, steadfastness, and sacrifice. She is a role model for all Christians, but for mothers, daughters, and wives she represents a quiet, life-changing strength and exemplifies the true definition of femininity that is needed in the world today.

While the consecrations above are labeled for specific family members, anyone can use the consecrations for themselves and are encouraged to do all three.

Five Fruits of Consecration

Consecration to Jesus, Mary and Joseph help you through every stage.

1. Salvation

Accepting Jesus' invitation into your life and His ultimate sacrifice for you. Accepting His gift of love, grace, and mercy.

2. Self

Taking action to align your life and will to God's.  Identify the areas of your life you need him most at the moment.

3. Sacrifice

Go to confession to make room in your soul and spirit for Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit to work- they can't work in a crowded 'house'.  Begin giving up those things that make you fall into sin. Practice the virtues. Offer yourself to God's service and to participate in Jesus' suffering for the salvation of others.

4. Servant

Once you have made room for God to work in your life, begin to serve others as Christ. Discern your ministry and listen for His voice and look for Him in your daily life. Your first concern is for those around you and how to serve them to show them the love of Christ.

5. Surrender

This is reflected in having full intimacy by sharing every part of your daily life with God- intimacy to the point that you tell Him things you find hard revealing to those closest to you. You have unconditional devotion to Him- you go to Him for everything first and you can identify the fruits of the Holy Spirit in your actions and words.
